February Wrap Up!

 Happy Wednesday!

I'm so thankful that I'm able to end February on a much better note than I started the month with. I'm feeling better, I'm able to start editing Desert Flower again now that I have a new laptop, and I'm feeling more motivated to get my current WIP done.

February Writing: Speaking of Desert Flower and my secret WIP, I didn't make much progress this month. I had intended to spend all of this month editing Desert Flower, but since I was sick and then my laptop having issues, it just didn't happen. The cover design also got pushed back and I'm not sure what any of that means for the publication date I had planned. So, for now I've decided I'm just going to take the rest of the month and all of March to edit instead and I'm thinking Desert Flower will get published in April. Though, I'm hoping maybe if I work hard enough I'll be able to get it published sooner. I'm doing an author fair in April and it would be really cool to get to have Desert Flower up on the table beside my other books!

As for my secret WIP... I actually have gotten quite a few words into that. But it's just felt slow going. Writing this WIP has kind of felt like pulling teeth. At this point, I'm just trying to get to the end because I know a lot of it is going to have be rewritten. But I figure I should finish it, so I have something to work with. Can't edit a blank page. Writing it though and introducing a new character did give me a great idea for a spin-off that I'm super excited about, so I'm kind of planning to just barrel through and finish this first draft, take a break from it and work on this new spin-off idea (and Desert Flower, of course).

February Reading: The month started out pretty slow with reading, but then I found the Shatter Me series and ended up reading all six books in the span of a week.

It took me a minute to get into the first book, but by the last book... it hurt so much to let go of the world and the characters. I fell so hard for those characters and it was so sad to leave them behind. This series definitely isn't for everyone, but I think it's worth a try if you're into YA dystopian enemies to lovers books.

I also am almost done with this fantasy romance called A Deal With the Elf King. I've seen it here and there on the Kindle story, but I thought it was spicy, so I never touched it. Last week I felt like I needed a book to read though, so I looked through some of the reviews and a few people said it wasn't as spicy as they thought it would be. The first 56% of the book isn't spicy at all, but by the end there are two or three scenes that I did have to skip. But overall, it was a fun book to read. It wasn't anything special or amazing, but it was fun.

February Life Stuff: Like I said earlier, I was sick for the first week or so of February. I felt like I was never going to get better. Thankfully, that wasn't true and I'm able to go back normal life again, but it just wasn't a fun way to start the month.

I started going to a new college age youth group. It's always nerve-racking to go somewhere new and try to meet new people, but this ended up going really well and I really enjoyed their teachings and the worship and everyone was really nice.

I also got a new laptop! I'm so excited after spending too long having to use a plug in keyboard. It's fine and everything and I'm thankful my laptop still worked and I was able to use a plug in keyboard... but it just wasn't ideal. A lot of times I like to write in bed or in different areas of the house or I take my laptop out places to write and I haven't been able to do that because some of the letters on my keyboard wouldn't work. So, I'm excited to be able to move around and sit where I want and write with my laptop again.

One of my brothers turned fifteen this month too, so that was fun to celebrate. Valentine's Day was lowkey and chill as usual for me and that was nice too. Overall, it was a pretty quiet month. Nothing big or crazy happened, which is kind of nice haha

One last thing. For the past two years or so, I've been slowly making way through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. It's my first time ever reading the whole Bible from beginning to end. I'll be honest and say that there were certain books or passages in the Bible that I had never read before, which is part of the reason I decided to do this. I'm very excited because I just hit Revelations! It took me a long time, but I finally did it. By the end of March, I'll have read through the Bible from front to back (and yes, I do intend to write a whole blog post about it haha).

Looking Forward to March: March is my favorite month of the year! I turn 24 on the 9th, so I'm both looking forward to that and not so much. I always love my birthdays, but 24 feels too close to 25 for me and I just don't know if I'm ready for that. Twenty-four feels like too much. Everyone's like you're still so young, don't worry about it, but I'm like... twenty-four feels like a lot. I don't even know why, but it just does. Despite that though, I do always love my birthday, so I am excited.

I'm also very excited for the new Batman movie coming out in March! I'm hoping to get to see it during my birthday week cus I think it'll be good (also, I just think Robert Patterson will do an amazing job as Bruce Wayne).

My goal for March and the next two weeks in general is to have the first draft of my secret WIP finished by my birthday. I'm already pretty much at the climax, so I think it's an attainable goal that I'll be able to finish the first draft before March 9th. I also plan to spend the month editing Desert Flower and getting it all polished and ready to be published in April. I'm still figuring out a good date in April for that. It all depends on when the cover gets done and how quickly it takes to do edits.

Oh! And I'm looking forward to The Summer We Forgot by Caroline George coming out the day before my birthday too! So, not only do I get Batman, but I also get an awesome new book by an amazing author for my birthday!

Other than that though... I'm not sure what else there is in March. I guess we'll see what the month has in store for us.

What were some of your favorite parts of February? And what are you looking forward to in March?

Happy Friday! So, they awesome Lily Cat tagged me in this fictional vacation/would you rather challenge and I am so excited to do this. It sounds so fun! Alright so here's the deal:   ~ Include the graphic  Madeline  made. ~ Answer the Questions  ~ Tag some other people if you feel so inclined Let's jump right into this!  Would you rather...  Train with demigods for the summer at Camp Halfblood OR attend Hogwarts to learn some spells for a semester? These movies were a disgrace to the books buuut I needed a gif so here you go haha How is this even a question? ;) Camp Halfblood of course! I adore the Percy Jackson series, so I would do just about anything to be a halfblood for the Summer. The real question is, who would my parent be?? My enneagram four side who loves being special and different wants me to be a kid of one of the big three... maybe Hades just to make myself extra special and unique from everyone else ;) But m...

How to Revise like a Pantser ft. Big Hero 6 Gifs

Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope you've had a great week so far and that you have a great Easter weekend ahead! We plan on going to my grandparent's on Friday to celebrate Easter with family and spending the night there so that'll be a fun time. :) Alright, so I contemplated doing an Easter-y post on here but I wasn't even sure what that would look like... So instead, I thought I'd do something fun and happy in honor of the celebration of Easter on Sunday. Without further ado, here is your Big Hero 6 gif filled revising process from a real life pantser: The end of your first draft is in sight! You type like crazy, stay up past your normal bedtime until it is finished. When you type The End, the satisfaction that you actually did this thing sets in. Guys, it is the sweetest feeling ever. Knowing you worked so hard to complete this draft and came out on the other side. Unscathed? Perhaps not. But triumphant? Definitely! That first draft is a total disast...

Best Resources for Writers

Happy Wednesday once more everyone! So recently I've been doing a lot of craft-learning and have discovered some pretty awesome resources that have been so helpful to me. I'm also contemplating trying my hand at a How To guide for writers. I've already written a How to Write a Serial book and it just needs to be touched up. I think I might make it one of my freebies for my newsletter. So then not only do you get a short story but also a how to guide cuz I realized a lot of the newsletters I sign up for come with how to guides or writerly resources. But anyways, here are some of my favorite books/podcasts/blogs that have been so, so helpful to me over the past few months: Craft Books: Go Teen Writers: Edit Your Novel by Stephanie Morril and Jill Williamson: This one has a little bit of everything in it and is perfect for beginners. If you've just started plotting your novel, are in the middle of writing it or have begun the editing process this is a must have!  ...
