Nanowrimo WIP Announcement: Project Xion

Happy Wednesday!

I was planning to post this last week, but it didn't happen, so here it is this week! I hope Nanowrimo is going well for everyone participating this year! :b I woke up November first and was genuinely happy and excited for this month, which I honestly haven't felt in a while and part of that comes from knowing that Nanowrimo is this month.

Anyways! Onto my WIP! Here's an intro to Project Xion!

Title: Undecided. At the moment, I'm calling it Project Xion (pronounced z-iy-on)

Genre: YA Fantasy

Rough Blurb: Kadin, king of South Xion must marry the daughter of the insurgent who killed his parents and tried to take over his kingdom when he was a child in order to unite the jungle and save it from decaying and completely falling apart.

Laurel's father, the man who killed the king and queen of South Xion has tasked her with marrying King Kadin and using an ancient djinn powered weapon to kill him and take over the kingdom that was rightfully theirs.

Length (so far): 34,418

Favorite Songs for the Project Xion Playlist: The Enemy by Andrew Belle, Empire by Beth Crowley, War of Hearts by Ruelle, Another Love by Tom Odell, Bad Habits by Ed Sheeran, Somebody by Hurts, Paper Thin by Illenium and Secrets and Lies by Ruelle

Fun Facts: Project Xion is a standalone spin-off of Desert Flower. The minute I finished Desert Flower I knew I wanted to write a book about Kadin who I introduce at the end of it. He doesn't have a prominent role, but his story and his character was so intriguing to me and had so much potential I knew he could pull off having a standalone about himself. It has steampunk vibes, magic gems, djinn and is set in a jungle kingdom setting.

Like I said, I knew about Kadin the minute I finished Desert Flower, but the second main character Laurel came by surprise. She's become such a fun character to write because she is the complete opposite of me. She's confident, flirty and stuffs down her emotions instead of facing them. Characters like her are always so hard because I have to go to drastic measures to get her to break and finally open up.

Character Intros:

King Kadin

Age: 20

Physical Appearance: Tall with chiseled features and black hair that is always messy. It takes a lot of gel to slick it back. Warm brown eyes and tan skin.

About Him: Became king at a young age, doesn't have any friends his own age and is big into talking things out first and fighting as a last resort.

Favorite Things: Sleeping in, sword training, walks in the gardens and reading.

Least Favorite Things: Council meetings, crowded banquets and balls, being called Your Majesty

                                                                                                Laurel Aurelius

Age: 19

Physical Appearance: Olive green eyes with tan skin. Dirty blond hair that is always in some sort of braid or assortment of braids. Tall and lean with a lot of muscle.

About Her: Daughter of Cadoc Aurelius Killer of the king and queen of Xion. Lost her mother at a young age. Punch first, ask questions later kind of attitude. Willing to do just about anything to distract herself from hard things. Will do anything to make her father proud.

Favorite Things: Laughing with her friends, sword training, climbing trees and flirting.

Least Favorite Things: Being told what to do, having to wear dresses that restrict her movements, and feeling any sort of negative emotion

Merci

Age: 20

Physical Appearance: Petite and curvy with long burgundy hair, pale skin and wide dark brown eyes with a heart shaped face.

About Her: Laurel's best friend, maidservant and bodyguard. Lost both of her parents at a young age and was taken in by Laurel and her father. Loves pretty things whether it be decorated food, beautiful rooms or frilly dresses.

Favorite Things: Knocking people down a beg, braiding hair, reading and hanging out with Laurel.

Least Favorite Things: Being underestimated, not having time to braid her hair before her day begins and having to chase after Laurel whenever she inevitably gets into trouble.

                                                                                                  Noam

Age: 21

Physical Appearance: Tall and muscular with dark skin, short cropped black hair and dark brown eyes.

About Him: Grew up with Merci and Laurel. Is a trusted soldier of Laurel's father. Ex-best friend of Laurel's who has a bit of a temper sometimes and secrets he's hiding. Can never turn down a dare. Is good at following orders.

Favorite Things: Hiding out in the ruins with Laurel, going on missions for her father, winning at any and all competitions.

Least Favorite Things: Disappointing Cadoc, magic, being underestimated and being away from home for too long.

End Intro!

What do you think?? I am having literally the best time writing this book. As much fun as I had writing Desert Flower, which I think deserves it's own intro post next week. I'll be doing progress reports and sharing more about the story on my Instagram if you want to check me out there: https://www.instagram.com/_melody_author_/

(Note: None of these pictures belong to me, all were found on Pinterest)

Are you doing Nanowrimo this year? If so, how's it going and what's your WIP about??

March-May Wrap Up!

Happy Tuesday!  So I had a March/April blog post all written out and forgot to post it! So here's a March-May recap! How has the last three months gone for you? March ended up being a really good month. I turned 25 and had a really great birthday I got to hang out with friends, watch some new shows and am almost done with the Throne of Glass series. April and May have also been really good months for me. God's blessed me in so many amazing ways over the past three months.  I feel bad that this blog has fallen so to the wayside for me. I used to post every week and be so excited and now I just really struggle to keep this updated. I'm starting to think it might be time to let this blog post unless I somehow get renewed motivation/inspiration for it.  March-May Writing:  March was a very good writing month. I just reached 65K in Immortal Circus #3, and despite a few small hiccups, it's been flowing really well. I'm enjoying getting to draft a book after spending ...

Turning 25!

Happy Thursday!  At the end of February I was looking back at my wrap ups on my Instagram and on here and it almost made me start crying because of how far I've come. It made me stop and think about where I started my 20's versus where I am now. So much as changed and so much of it for the better. Just looking back at the pictures and wrap ups I've done over the past year, I feel like I'm thriving. I'm at a place I honestly didn't think I'd ever get to and maybe that was just me being dramatic or living in on and off depression for so many years, but it makes me tear up and so thankful to see how far I've come since 20.  At 20 I had a best friend I thought I would still be best friends with when I turned 25. I had him and two other friends at 20 and that was it. I don't even remember what church we were at five years ago, but it wasn't the church we're at now and I know I definitely was not thriving there. I felt so behind everyone else my a...

A Goodbye to The Archive Series

Happy Friday!  The final book of The Archive Series comes out next Tuesday. This has been almost three years in the making and I don't know what to say to properly say goodbye.  I started this series in December 2019 with Golden Touch. The idea had been sparked by me watching The Road to El Dorado and having a desire to write a treasure hunt story for most of December. Little did I know that the story of a girl finding a boy with a Midas touch up in the mountains to help her family with their money issues would turn into a five book series and be a huge part of my life for the next few years. I also had no idea that that series would get me through one of the hardest years - 2020. Honestly, God knew what 2020 would be like and He knew I was going to need a story and characters that would make me happy, give me joy and focus on during that very hard year. And for me, that was Amaya and Darren and this whole series.  I poured a lot of myself and my story into Amaya and Darr...
