November Monthly Wrap Up

Happy Monday!

Wow I feel like November has gone by so quickly and tomorrow will be December! What even happened?? I can't believe it, but am also so ready for it. My classes end in a few weeks and, even though I've been enjoying them, I'm ready for a break.

November Writing: In other words, a Nanowrimo wrap up. Nanowrimo went... differently than my other five years of doing it. I decided to do Nanowrimo for an Arthurian Legends retelling/continuation called Valiant about the daughter of Merlin. It's a cool concept and I fell in love with the aesthetic and idea of it but in practice? Let's just say it all sort of fell apart. I still managed to get to 50,000 words in it, but I didn't finish it and it was a real drag getting to 50K. Not the Nanowrimo I had wanted to have this November, but oh wells! It was a learning experience and I know I needed to write Valiant even though it didn't work out. Some story seeds that didn't quite seem to fit in Valiant has ended up in book four of the Archive series, so it all worked out.

Speaking of the Archive Series, once I got to 50K and won Nanowrimo, I decided to go back to the Archive Series and work on that. I hadn't worked on any of it since October fourth, so it's been a while. It felt so good getting back into the series and writing book 4! I'm having an absolute blast with this next installment of the series.

I also finished getting Unearthed ready for publication and it will be out next week! Book 3 in the trilogy out tomorrow, I can't even believe it! :o

Look at this gorgeous cover!! I love it so much! 😍

It's an amazing and exciting feeling knowing that I actually finished an entire trilogy, a whole series and I can't wait to share this final book with you guys!

November Reading: Unlocked finally came out!!

And it exceeded my every expectation!! Oh my goodness... I could gush about that novella forever, but all I will say is this: my poor Keefe, why does Shannon Messenger have to be so mean to him?? Sophie is growing up to be so fierce and I need book 9 right now!! Plus all that extra content? So fun and so gorgeous!

I also finally got around to reading Dust by Kara Swanson and oh my goodness, it was so good!

I've wanted to read it all year, but just haven't gotten around to it. Just wow... it was beautiful and such a unique twist on the story of Peter Pan. I can't wait for Shadow to come out!

November Life Stuff: Let's see... what happened in November? Honestly, not much. Classwork slowed down a little this month, so that was nice. I had to go to the dentist which is always so very fun. ;)

We put up a small Christmas tree and our Christmas decorations at the beginning of the month and I've been listening to Christmas music all month. That never usually happens. I'm more of a wait till after Thanksgiving for all the Christmas things, but this year I needed some Christmas early.

And, of course, there's Thanksgiving. We went to my grandparents and had Thanksgiving with them and my aunt and cousins. We didn't get to go see a movie like we usually do this year because all of their movie theaters are closed, so that was a little bit of a bummer. :( But we did get to stay in this gorgeous hotel with an indoor-outdoor hot tub and water slides. It's my favorite hotel to stay at and they had all of their Christmas lights up, so it was so pretty.

Looking Forward to December: There's a lot to look forward to in December. Christmas movies, Christmas music, Christmas lights and decorations. All the Christmas things. Since a lot of our normal Christmas celebrations and things we do around here are cancelled, we'll have to get creative on finding Christmas-y things to do. I'm just very excited for Christmas this year. I'm very excited for December this year. Not because I want 2020 to end like so many people seem to want, but just because Christmas is the happiest time of the year and I think we could all use some happiness this year.

My classes also end in December, so I'm very much looking forward to that. It's been a good semester with some really interesting classes, but I'm still ready for all the classwork to be over and to have a breather before the next semester starts up.

I'm also doing an online author visit at a friend's high school on Friday! I've never done an author visit, so I'm a little nervous but also really excited. It'll be a pretty relaxed environment and I'm going to talk about my author journey, self-publishing and writing to her book club and writing club. I'm so excited to get to talk to them about writing!

Also, I mean Unearthed is out like next week, so that's sort of a perfect way to ring in December. The release kind of snuck up on me. I haven't really had the time to plan for anything big or promote it a whole lot. But if you're interested check back here tomorrow for the big release!

Weapon Icean also turns five in December too! I'm hoping I'll be able to have a fun surprise for that. It's crazy to think I've been a published author for five years. :o

I'm also looking forward to writing more of book 4 of the Archive Series and editing Golden Touch this December too. That's what December is going to be dedicated to writing-wise: editing Golden Touch and writing book 4.

That's my November in a nutshell and I'm looking forward to December!

How was your November? What are you looking forward to in December?

  2. Congrats on NaNo and your new book release! Sometimes drafts need to be written as a learning process. One draft I wrote ended up being changed almost completely but I had to write the trash draft to get a better one! I hope this year is a time of peace and happiness you. ^ ^

Friday in Review: Fictional Vacation/Would you Rather

Happy Friday! So, they awesome Lily Cat tagged me in this fictional vacation/would you rather challenge and I am so excited to do this. It sounds so fun! Alright so here's the deal:   ~ Include the graphic  Madeline  made. ~ Answer the Questions  ~ Tag some other people if you feel so inclined Let's jump right into this!  Would you rather...  Train with demigods for the summer at Camp Halfblood OR attend Hogwarts to learn some spells for a semester? These movies were a disgrace to the books buuut I needed a gif so here you go haha How is this even a question? ;) Camp Halfblood of course! I adore the Percy Jackson series, so I would do just about anything to be a halfblood for the Summer. The real question is, who would my parent be?? My enneagram four side who loves being special and different wants me to be a kid of one of the big three... maybe Hades just to make myself extra special and unique from everyone else ;) But m...

How to Revise like a Pantser ft. Big Hero 6 Gifs

Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope you've had a great week so far and that you have a great Easter weekend ahead! We plan on going to my grandparent's on Friday to celebrate Easter with family and spending the night there so that'll be a fun time. :) Alright, so I contemplated doing an Easter-y post on here but I wasn't even sure what that would look like... So instead, I thought I'd do something fun and happy in honor of the celebration of Easter on Sunday. Without further ado, here is your Big Hero 6 gif filled revising process from a real life pantser: The end of your first draft is in sight! You type like crazy, stay up past your normal bedtime until it is finished. When you type The End, the satisfaction that you actually did this thing sets in. Guys, it is the sweetest feeling ever. Knowing you worked so hard to complete this draft and came out on the other side. Unscathed? Perhaps not. But triumphant? Definitely! That first draft is a total disast...

Best Resources for Writers

Happy Wednesday once more everyone! So recently I've been doing a lot of craft-learning and have discovered some pretty awesome resources that have been so helpful to me. I'm also contemplating trying my hand at a How To guide for writers. I've already written a How to Write a Serial book and it just needs to be touched up. I think I might make it one of my freebies for my newsletter. So then not only do you get a short story but also a how to guide cuz I realized a lot of the newsletters I sign up for come with how to guides or writerly resources. But anyways, here are some of my favorite books/podcasts/blogs that have been so, so helpful to me over the past few months: Craft Books: Go Teen Writers: Edit Your Novel by Stephanie Morril and Jill Williamson: This one has a little bit of everything in it and is perfect for beginners. If you've just started plotting your novel, are in the middle of writing it or have begun the editing process this is a must have!  ...
