How to Write a First Draft like a Pantser (As Told by Transformer Gifs)

Happy Wednesday (and February)!

I loved starting the new year off with a three part series on my writing journey. It was fun not just for me to recap and to see how far I've come, but also to share a little of what I've learned over the years and to get to interact with others about what they've learned and their writing journey too.

For February though, I wanted to start out with something fun. I realized, I've written quite a few posts about my revision process. I guess, probably because revision is always the hardest and longest part for me. Drafting, for me anyways, is the relatively easy part. But I wanted an excuse to use lots of Transformers gifs because I love those movies so much and I think there are some pretty hilarious gifs to be found in those movies, so here is my drafting process (as told by Transformer gifs cus why not?).

Get the Idea
Aww Bee's the best 😍
Start writing said Idea without any planning at all. Beginnings are always super easy for me, so I just fly through the first 10,000-20,000 words. Everything's all well and good. I'm having a great time. This story is amazing. Wow, I'm a great writer. Writing is so easy!
Me starting a new WIP

And then... usually around the 25,000-30,000 word mark is when I hit the dreaded middle. Middles are the literal hardest. The story starts to get complicated. I have to actually start making stuff up, giving my characters a super hard time. Relationships are formed. Bonds are tested. Lots of stuff happens. And I realize... writing is really hard.
My brain when I get to the middle of a story lol (this was my fave movie of the original trilogy btw)

I trudge through the muddy middle. There are about three books that I've written in my entire life that the middle wasn't hard for me. And even then, it required a lot of stopping and planning stuff out and plotting and thinking as I write.
Me realizing I still have a long way to go before the end

Then the climax is in sight. There is hope that it is nearing the end! Usually for me, I rush through the climax and to the end. I get too impatient to wait another second to finish this book, so I just sit down and write for however long it takes to finish it.
Don't freak out... keep your cool, you're almost done with the book! 😱

You finish the first draft! It's the most amazing feel in the world. You wrote a whole book and that is pretty spectacular! Now go eat chocolate and read a book and celebrate!
Again... Bee is the literal best and the Bumblebee movie was perfection 😍

So there you have it, how to write a first draft as a pantser (or at least, how this pantser writes a first draft). Hopefully middles are a little easier for you than they are for me haha. It was harder than I thought it would be to find gifs that would work for this post, but it was so fun nonetheless.

How do you write your first draft? Do you plot before hand or just jump right in?

How to Revise like a Pantser ft. Big Hero 6 Gifs

Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope you've had a great week so far and that you have a great Easter weekend ahead! We plan on going to my grandparent's on Friday to celebrate Easter with family and spending the night there so that'll be a fun time. :) Alright, so I contemplated doing an Easter-y post on here but I wasn't even sure what that would look like... So instead, I thought I'd do something fun and happy in honor of the celebration of Easter on Sunday. Without further ado, here is your Big Hero 6 gif filled revising process from a real life pantser: The end of your first draft is in sight! You type like crazy, stay up past your normal bedtime until it is finished. When you type The End, the satisfaction that you actually did this thing sets in. Guys, it is the sweetest feeling ever. Knowing you worked so hard to complete this draft and came out on the other side. Unscathed? Perhaps not. But triumphant? Definitely! That first draft is a total disast

Cover Reveal: Golden Touch!!

Happy Tuesday!!  Today's the day! I turn 23 and I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than to share the cover for Golden Touch! I think this is by far my favorite cover my mom has ever done. It's crazy to think that this time last year Golden Touch was still just a first draft and I was in the middle of writing book 2 of the series. A defining part of my twenty-second year will always be having revised Golden Touch and written almost the entire Archive Series. And now I get to open up my twenty-third year with sharing the cover and writing book the first draft of book 5, the very last book in the series. God is so good guys. I really think He gave me Golden Touch and this whole series a few months before the events of 2020 started. He gave me a story I could get lost in, I could find joy in even during some of the hardest times of the year. And now I get to share the cover and I get to close out the series and I just pray and hope that God will use Golden Touch and

Friday in Review: May Monthly Wrap-Up

Happy Wednesday once more everyone! I hope you've all had a great May. May has been full of lots of life stuff and writerly stuff and reading. I am so excited to share it with you all (along with an awesome new thing I'm doing for next month on here)! May Writing: May was full of lots of writing... Like lots. I finished draft four of The Lost Ones, came up with the name The Lost Ones and finished editing draft five. Now comes the hard work of plugging in all those changes and edits into my Word doc. Oh the joys of writing... ;) But for real, I am so excited that I finished the read through for TLO and I am even more excited to finish this draft so I can get it ready for betas. This month I also planned out the series... I've never planned out a series ever. I'm a pantser so what do I do? I make life hard for myself by winging not only my novels but entire series too. That whole not planning thing? It didn't work for me and since I'm wanting to take myself m
