Friday Musings #6

Happy Friday and happy Valentine's Day!

I had this whole Valentine's post planned for Wednesday and then... the week got away from me and I ended up not finishing it. :( I was pretty excited about it though, so I think I'll finish writing it over the weekend and post it next week.

This week has been a bit of a rough one. My anxiety's felt a little out of control lately and this week has just felt like one thing after another. It's been tough, but I am glad I still had the energy to get my classwork done for the week. I even got some editing done on Cursed and Golden Touch too.

I started Chosen by Kirsten White this week! I'm only on like chapter two, but I'm loving it so far! I love the protagonist, Nina. Most other slayers are tough and strong, independent female protagonists. And if they aren't before they become a slayer, they become one pretty quickly. They give into their slayer instincts. I love that Nina started out a healer, a girl who doesn't mind being the backup, the person in the background. I love even more that she decides to fight her slayer instincts and stay her compassionate, kind and healing self. It's interesting to watch her inner struggle between who she wants to be and who her slayer instincts want her to be.

This week I also got a par of new boots! That was probably the highlight of my week so far haha! I found these super cute boots on sale at Shoe Carnival. They are my new favorite shoes that I own haha!

It got super cold where I'm at. Wednesday night it snowed and snowed and snowed! It wasn't great snow though... it's kind of wet and a little slushy. Or at least it was. Last night the temperature dropped to like 1 degrees so everything outside froze. The high of today is supposed to be like 5 degrees.

Also! For Valentine's week, Wayward is on sale! You can get it today for 1.99!

I finished my first prayer journal of 2020 this week too! That one lasted from December 26, 2019 till this week, which is pretty quick. I've been using it a lot lately though, so it filled up pretty quickly.

Yesterday I went to the dentist and that was no fun. Turns out I've got a lot going on with my teeth haha

And today is Valentine's Day! I'm babysitting again today so I'm going to bring over some fun craft stuff and we're going to make Valentine cards so that'l be fun!

Tomorrow is one of my little brothers' birthdays. He's turning thirteen! 😱 I can't believe it! They grow up so fast haha

Oh! And how could I forget? To All the Boys I loved Before: P.S. I Still Love You (dang that's a long title haha) came out on Wednesday!! 😍 No spoilers, but it was fantastic. Literally the first movie and now this one too are some of the best teen romance movies I've ever seen. It lived up to every expectation and did the first one justice in every way. If you're looking for an adorable, romantic and sweet movie to watch for your Valentine's Day, I highly recommend To All the Boys and To All the Boys #2!

So, yeah... that was more or less my week. There's been lots of downs and not a lot of ups this week, but I'm feeling pretty good today and I'm just trying to keep a positive attitude about next week.

I hope you have a great Valentine's Day! (Also, if you're looking for some encouraging words on this Valentine's Day Hannah Brencher wrote some beautiful words this week. I love everything she writes and this post was so good and so unique from all the other posts for single people that inevitably comes out on the week of Valentine's.)

How has your week been? Are you doing anything for Valentine's Day today?

  1. Ooh, I love boots as well! I've got a couple of pairs that I just adore, and it's always so exciting when it's cold enough to wear them, lol

I've seen Chosen around, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I have read some others by Kiersten White though, and all of them were great, so I'm sure I'll read that one eventually.

    1. Boots are the best!

I love all of Kiersten White's books. I haven't read them all yet, but I started reading her new Slayer series because I'm a fan of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer show. :)

How to Revise like a Pantser ft. Big Hero 6 Gifs

Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope you've had a great week so far and that you have a great Easter weekend ahead! We plan on going to my grandparent's on Friday to celebrate Easter with family and spending the night there so that'll be a fun time. :) Alright, so I contemplated doing an Easter-y post on here but I wasn't even sure what that would look like... So instead, I thought I'd do something fun and happy in honor of the celebration of Easter on Sunday. Without further ado, here is your Big Hero 6 gif filled revising process from a real life pantser: The end of your first draft is in sight! You type like crazy, stay up past your normal bedtime until it is finished. When you type The End, the satisfaction that you actually did this thing sets in. Guys, it is the sweetest feeling ever. Knowing you worked so hard to complete this draft and came out on the other side. Unscathed? Perhaps not. But triumphant? Definitely! That first draft is a total disast

How to Write a Negative Character Arc

Anyone else love reading a train wreck? I find negative character arcs refreshing and fun to read and watch because not a lot of people do them. Like I'm a sucker for a redemption arc. I love characters that start out horrible and bad and "irredeemable" and then slowly redeem themselves and become the good guy. But from time to time I just love watching a good character go bad. Call me evil but I hope I'm not the only one who enjoys this. I've actually wanted to write this post for a while after rewatching Merlin last year and then over the past month me and a friend were rewatching Star Wars and I've always enjoyed the prequels because of Anakin's downward spiral. Also the last season of The 100, you watch as Octavia completes her journey to becoming one of the meanest, worst antagonists in the show. And that's saying something. The other day I really thought about what other characters who have negative arcs there are but I honestly couldn't th

Friday in Review: May Monthly Wrap-Up

Happy Wednesday once more everyone! I hope you've all had a great May. May has been full of lots of life stuff and writerly stuff and reading. I am so excited to share it with you all (along with an awesome new thing I'm doing for next month on here)! May Writing: May was full of lots of writing... Like lots. I finished draft four of The Lost Ones, came up with the name The Lost Ones and finished editing draft five. Now comes the hard work of plugging in all those changes and edits into my Word doc. Oh the joys of writing... ;) But for real, I am so excited that I finished the read through for TLO and I am even more excited to finish this draft so I can get it ready for betas. This month I also planned out the series... I've never planned out a series ever. I'm a pantser so what do I do? I make life hard for myself by winging not only my novels but entire series too. That whole not planning thing? It didn't work for me and since I'm wanting to take myself m
