Friday Musings #1

Happy Friday everyone!

I'm trying something new... This writer I follow, Caitlin who runs the blog And Possibly Dinosaurs does this thing every Sunday called Sunday Scratches where she sort of recaps the highlights of her week. I really liked that idea, so I thought I'd do something similar on here.

This past week has felt like a week of waiting. Next week my classes start, I'm hanging out with a friend, my small group starts along with a babysitting job that will be on Fridays. The next Wednesday after next week my childcare job at my church starts again. I keep waiting for the anxiety to take over, to get overwhelmed with everything coming my way but... so far I've been surprisingly steady. By now, I would have freaked out about everything happening, but I'm just... not which I give all the praise to God for because there's no way in the world I could have this kind of steadiness and peace without His help.

I finished draft 6 of Cursed this week and have been trying to figure out how to move forward. Either to do some more in Word doc edits or print it out and edit it by hand. I've already printed it out once and it wasn't ready to be printed out so I'm hesitant to try it again when I'm unsure if the story is ready for that stage.

I got a ton of words written in my new WIP that I'm hesitantly calling Golden Touch.

I did a lot of planning and figuring things out for my blog, newsletter and social media.

I started reading in Numbers this week. Throughout the second half of last year, I started reading through Genesis and then Exodus. I just finished Leviticus (that was a hard book!) a week or so ago and now I'm in Numbers. I've never read Numbers before so it's been a fun ride so far.

Numbers is great and all but Wednesday night I felt the intense need to read a Gospel. I was having a serious craving for Jesus, so I started reading in John. Thursday morning I felt a need for some more Jesus, so after I read a chapter in Numbers, I read another chapter in John and it has been so good for my heart and my mind. The Old Testament is great but sometimes you just need the comfort of Jesus' words and presence through reading the gospels.

Talking about reading the Bible and spending time with God, as things start to get busy in the next few weeks I'm trying to cement these rhythms now so that I have them in the weeks to come. I got the idea of rhythms from Hannah Brencher's newest blog post Choosing Rhythms over Resolutions. (Hannah Brencher is all kinds of amazing. Check out her blog and her book Come Matter Here).

Also, I started reading Linger, the sequel to Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater, and am loving it! There's something about this series that is so chill. Like there's no explosions or crazy plot twists. It's just lots of beautiful and heartbreaking moments from the life of Sam and Grace captured in the pages of a book and I love it so much.

Ooh! And! I watched Bumblebee! When it first came out in theaters I wanted to see it so bad but I just never got around to it and then when it came out on DVD I had planned to rent it and then just... never got around to it. I am a huge Transformers fan though (that first movie? It was just amazing!) and I love Bumblebee so much, so when I saw it was on Hulu I jumped at the chance to watch it and can I just say, that movie is phenomenal! Like everything about it is just so perfect and Charlie? She's my new fave tomboy with great fashion sense. Her friendship with Bee is absolutely adorable and her budding romance with Memo? So cute! Also John Cena is incredible and did an amazing job in this movie. Like... the movie was just perfect and if you have Hulu you should go watch it right now. It's a prequel so you don't have to have watched the other Transformers movies to enjoy it. And I totally geeked out when they showed Cybertron in the opening scenes!! That was so epic! Along with the classic designs of the Autobots and Decipticons. Oh man... it was so cool seeing them looking like the little Transformers figurines my brother and I used to play with when we were little (especially Soundwave. He looked exactly like the figurine we used to have)!

I also discovered a new TV show that is so quirky and fun, but also surprisingly deep and meaningful. It's called Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. I saw it on Hulu and didn't have anything else to watch so I gave it a try. It was so good!! It's about this young woman who's a introverted coder who works for this app company or something like that. She gets an MRI and right as she's in the MRI and they're playing music an earthquake hits. Something happens with her brain and like she downloads the playlist or something and when she walks out she can hear everything everyone is thinking but in song! With dance numbers! It was so fun and I loved the bright color scheme of the show. So good.

The end of this week has been a bit rough... There's been some personal stuff going on in the family that's been difficult to handle, but I'm really hoping and praying for a nice, quiet weekend.

Overall, despite a few hard times the week was good.

How was your week??

How to Revise like a Pantser ft. Big Hero 6 Gifs

Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope you've had a great week so far and that you have a great Easter weekend ahead! We plan on going to my grandparent's on Friday to celebrate Easter with family and spending the night there so that'll be a fun time. :) Alright, so I contemplated doing an Easter-y post on here but I wasn't even sure what that would look like... So instead, I thought I'd do something fun and happy in honor of the celebration of Easter on Sunday. Without further ado, here is your Big Hero 6 gif filled revising process from a real life pantser: The end of your first draft is in sight! You type like crazy, stay up past your normal bedtime until it is finished. When you type The End, the satisfaction that you actually did this thing sets in. Guys, it is the sweetest feeling ever. Knowing you worked so hard to complete this draft and came out on the other side. Unscathed? Perhaps not. But triumphant? Definitely! That first draft is a total disast

Cover Reveal: Golden Touch!!

Happy Tuesday!!  Today's the day! I turn 23 and I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than to share the cover for Golden Touch! I think this is by far my favorite cover my mom has ever done. It's crazy to think that this time last year Golden Touch was still just a first draft and I was in the middle of writing book 2 of the series. A defining part of my twenty-second year will always be having revised Golden Touch and written almost the entire Archive Series. And now I get to open up my twenty-third year with sharing the cover and writing book the first draft of book 5, the very last book in the series. God is so good guys. I really think He gave me Golden Touch and this whole series a few months before the events of 2020 started. He gave me a story I could get lost in, I could find joy in even during some of the hardest times of the year. And now I get to share the cover and I get to close out the series and I just pray and hope that God will use Golden Touch and

How to Write a Negative Character Arc

Anyone else love reading a train wreck? I find negative character arcs refreshing and fun to read and watch because not a lot of people do them. Like I'm a sucker for a redemption arc. I love characters that start out horrible and bad and "irredeemable" and then slowly redeem themselves and become the good guy. But from time to time I just love watching a good character go bad. Call me evil but I hope I'm not the only one who enjoys this. I've actually wanted to write this post for a while after rewatching Merlin last year and then over the past month me and a friend were rewatching Star Wars and I've always enjoyed the prequels because of Anakin's downward spiral. Also the last season of The 100, you watch as Octavia completes her journey to becoming one of the meanest, worst antagonists in the show. And that's saying something. The other day I really thought about what other characters who have negative arcs there are but I honestly couldn't th
