Happy Friday once again everyone! So, I know it's like what? The second week of camp nanowrimo, but since I'm waiting for feedback on St. Croix Falls, I've decided to work on a new project to give myself some space. It is also YA contemporary fantasy and so far has been really fun to write. You can find out more about it Here. Currently I am almost at 20,000 words. My goal was to write 5,000 words every day but yesterday I only got like 2,000 done which isn't that bad at all. My goal for today is to get to 20,000 words.
Anyways, onto my book review. This book took me a while to read. Not because I didn't enjoy it or like it but because I just happened to be reading it at a really busy time. There was a lot going on and I just kept prioritizing other stuff over reading.
The Steel City Genie Series Book 1
Lust: There's nothing horrible in this book. Honestly, Allis and Cendric were pretty tame and I appreciated that. If anything, their romance was more sweet and about devotion and loyalty than anything else.
Language: As far as I can remember, there may have been one or two sweat words here and there but nothing crazy and not enough to make me stop reading it.
Overall: This book was so good! The characters were fleshed and unique, the plot kept you reading and the writing was well done. But what really got me was the worldbuilding. I love worlds where all supernatural/paranormal creatures live side by side. There's kitsune, jinn, vampires and shifters amongst other things in this book and I loved it. I also love when a world like that is fleshed out enough to have political systems, which usually brings another level of tension to the plot as well. Janeen Ippolito did an amazing job with this book and I can't wait to read book 2! (Right after I finish Keen by Laura Zimmerman of course).

The Steel City Genie Series Book 1
So I accidentally killed a shifter. On purpose.
With genie powers I shouldn’t be able to use, thanks to my curse-mark.
In my defense, the damn grizzly was threatening civilians and might have been a vampire as well. Pittsburgh is safer without him. Only the Fae court doesn’t believe my story, and the shifters are out for blood.
Now I’ve lost my job as a romantic investigator, and I’m on death row. My only hope is an oddly outgoing vegetarian vampire lawyer who seems strangely familiar. Too familiar.
Almost like we’ve met before, and this whole thing was a set-up to take us both down.
Wishing won’t get us out of this mess.
But my forbidden wish magic just might.
Romance: I absolutely loved the romance in this book!! Allis and Cendric are amazing together. I loved the mystery and intrigue that came with their relationship and it left you wondering what was going on and how they knew each other through the first half of the book. To be honest, it's what kept me reading (I'm a sucker for a good romance). But my forbidden wish magic just might.

Have a great weekend everyone!
Are you doing camp nanowrimo this year? What do you think of If Wishes Were Curses?
Sounds like a interesting book. I don't normally read supernatural books like this, but the story sounds cool! I'm not doing camp NaNo. Though I wich you luck on getting your words in!
