Friday in Review: June Monthly Wrap Up

Hello all! We have just two more days (not including today haha) of June!! :O I cannot believe that we are halfway through the year... like this year just feels like it went by so quickly. I know I say that  every year but this one has been different. It just went by in a snap.

June Writing: June was a big month for me. I did so many writerly things. I started my own website which you can find at www.melodypersonette.com, have been working a ton on my newsletter and Dragon Hearted. I started a Facebook group for readers and writers (something I've wanted to do for a long time) which you can find Here.

During the month of June I also wrote a new book. I really thought The Lost One was "the one." The next one I was going to publish... and then I got through the read through and took a break from it and have felt no motivation to go back to it. My excitement and passion for the book and the series died out completely and I realized I needed to work on something else for my own sanity. I have Dragon Hearted to write but I feel the need to be on another novel. So I sat down and just started writing and the story of Mia and St. Croix Falls came to be. I had no idea where it was going or what the book would be about at all, other than I knew I wanted it to fit into the contemporary fantasy and romance genre. I wanted to see if I could write a book like Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout, which are some of my favorite books. Heavy on the romance (but also waaay cleaner than any of Jennifer Armentrouts books haha and the drama and where the protags can't stand each other and by the end of the book can't stand to be away from each other. And... I think I did it and I had the literal best time writing it too. I realized this is my genre. This is my niche, this is the thing I am good at, can write quickly (I wrote the whole first draft in exactly two weeks. Started Sunday and finished it on a Sunday) and the genre I enjoy the most. This one is definitely "the one." The one that I know for sure I want to publish, that I want to pursue. So yeah, St. Croix Falls is what I'm working on right now. I'm starting revisions and I really can't wait to share this book with everyone! To know more about St. Croix Falls you can go HERE.

And, as usual, I am working on Dragon Hearted. I just finished writing episode 5 which will be sent out July eighth. To get new episodes of that you can sign up below.

June Reading: June has been a slow reading month... I've read two full books this month and am currently still in the middle of one.

I read Twisted Desire and Twisted Fate by Jessi Elliot. They were good... Not amazing but I enjoyed them and I mean, if I couldn't put them down then obviously they were pretty good. There were a few scenes that I had to skip in the book but other than those it was pretty clean.

Right now I'm reading If Wishes Were Curses by Janeen Ippollito and am loving it! It's so imaginative and interesting. The world kind of reminds me a little of Shadowhunters because there's a little bit of every creature in it. There's vampires and Fae and kitsune and jinn and shifters. I highly recommend it and can't wait to read book two in the series!

June Life Stuff: Life stuff... let's see... I started my first class at a four year college this past week. It's an Intro to Science Fiction class and the book we've started out with is Frankenstein. I'm loving it so much and I'm loving reading Frankenstein, especially after having read Kiersten White's The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein. If you need to read Frankenstein then I highly suggest you read those books together or one after the other. Kiersten White's book compliments the classic of Mary Shelley so perfectly. So, that's been fun and an adjustment getting back into the swing of classes.

I'm not sure if much else happened in Junes, besides like one of the best nights ever. I went to see Twenty One Pilots in concert with my best friend and his family. It was one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had. Josh and Tyler know how to put on a show. It was more than just entertainment... It was amazing getting to be there and sing these songs and just experience the incredible atmosphere of a stadium full of fans who love them and their songs as much as I do. I can't even describe what it meant to me and especially that I got to go with my best friend, who loves this band even more than I do.

In the middle of Fairly Local the whole place went dark and when the lights came back on Tyler was literally right there where we were sitting!!

So yeah, it was so awesome. Literally the best concert I have ever been to and I already am hoping they will come back here on another tour because I would love to see them again.

How was your June? :)

Friday in Review: Fictional Vacation/Would you Rather

Happy Friday! So, they awesome Lily Cat tagged me in this fictional vacation/would you rather challenge and I am so excited to do this. It sounds so fun! Alright so here's the deal:   ~ Include the graphic  Madeline  made. ~ Answer the Questions  ~ Tag some other people if you feel so inclined Let's jump right into this!  Would you rather...  Train with demigods for the summer at Camp Halfblood OR attend Hogwarts to learn some spells for a semester? These movies were a disgrace to the books buuut I needed a gif so here you go haha How is this even a question? ;) Camp Halfblood of course! I adore the Percy Jackson series, so I would do just about anything to be a halfblood for the Summer. The real question is, who would my parent be?? My enneagram four side who loves being special and different wants me to be a kid of one of the big three... maybe Hades just to make myself extra special and unique from everyone else ;) But m...

How to Revise like a Pantser ft. Big Hero 6 Gifs

Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope you've had a great week so far and that you have a great Easter weekend ahead! We plan on going to my grandparent's on Friday to celebrate Easter with family and spending the night there so that'll be a fun time. :) Alright, so I contemplated doing an Easter-y post on here but I wasn't even sure what that would look like... So instead, I thought I'd do something fun and happy in honor of the celebration of Easter on Sunday. Without further ado, here is your Big Hero 6 gif filled revising process from a real life pantser: The end of your first draft is in sight! You type like crazy, stay up past your normal bedtime until it is finished. When you type The End, the satisfaction that you actually did this thing sets in. Guys, it is the sweetest feeling ever. Knowing you worked so hard to complete this draft and came out on the other side. Unscathed? Perhaps not. But triumphant? Definitely! That first draft is a total disast...

Best Resources for Writers

Happy Wednesday once more everyone! So recently I've been doing a lot of craft-learning and have discovered some pretty awesome resources that have been so helpful to me. I'm also contemplating trying my hand at a How To guide for writers. I've already written a How to Write a Serial book and it just needs to be touched up. I think I might make it one of my freebies for my newsletter. So then not only do you get a short story but also a how to guide cuz I realized a lot of the newsletters I sign up for come with how to guides or writerly resources. But anyways, here are some of my favorite books/podcasts/blogs that have been so, so helpful to me over the past few months: Craft Books: Go Teen Writers: Edit Your Novel by Stephanie Morril and Jill Williamson: This one has a little bit of everything in it and is perfect for beginners. If you've just started plotting your novel, are in the middle of writing it or have begun the editing process this is a must have!  ...
