Guess what??!! My first elementary grade book is out today!! It's called Firespot The Red Panda and is about a little boy who's parents are missionaries in Myanmar. Here's the official blurb:
Thomas moved to Myanmar with his parents. When he and his parents go for a hike in the jungle, Thomas finds an injured baby red panda. Can Thomas and his family find a way to help this hurt orphan?
So about a month ago my mom came to me with an idea saying how cute it would be if I wrote a book about a red panda for my little brother. At first I was hesitant. I've never written a children's book and though it was fun and if it goes well, I do intend to write more, it isn't my favorite genre to write in. But, for my little brother, I would try it. So I spent some time thinking and plotting and I came up with the story of Thomas and Firespot (who is named after my little brother's stuffed animal red panda). And not only is this my first elementary/children's book, but it is also the first book I've written that is explicitly Christian. His parents are missionaries and they pray before dinner. It was just really cool to write that. In many of the worlds I've written, Christianity hasn't been in them. I keep to certain standards, but I don't explicitly mention God or my faith in them, so to get to do that in this book was really cool. Since I have four younger brothers, two who aren't teenagers yet my mom often has a hard time finding good children's/elementary school books that feature a male protagonist. A lot of books nowadays have female protagonists and while that's great for girls and boys can read books with girl protagonists... it's still not the same. Boys should have role models in books and have male protagonists their age that they can relate to. Anyways, that's one of the reasons why if I do write more of these missionary books I want them to primarily have male protagonists, because I'm writing them not just for my little brothers, but for other little boys out there who can see themselves in the book.
It's officially on Amazon now too!! Here's the link: HERE!!!
So I know its Thanksgiving today and I know a lot of people are going to be traveling, eat and having a good time with friends and family, but tomorrow is black Friday and I do believe Monday is cyber Monday? So during both of those days while you're out shopping, don't forget my little book on Amazon. :)
