Friday in Review: The Inhumans

I haven't done one of these in forever! This one is sort of a shorter one cuz I'm pretty tired and feeling kind of light headed, but I really wanted to get a blog post written, so that's why it's a shorter post.  There have been a few shows that I've finished, mainly 12 Monkeys and Being Human that I still have to do reviews on, but today I wanted to go for something that's fresher in my mind. If your a superhero/Marvel fan, especially of their TV shows, then you know the Inhumans.
The reviews have been scattered and I'll admit, it's wasn't the strongest show I've ever seen, but what do you get from giving ABC a cast of Marvel characters?

ABC does dramas very well. I really liked Switched at Birth, up until the last season which got kind of crazy and I just stopped watching... And Once Upon A Time only did so well because of Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, and that's show is going downhill fast. I watched the first two episodes and then stopped watching cuz it got way too politically correct and overall the story and characters were just failing. But other than those two, I don't watch a ton of ABC, mostly because they do not do fantasy/scifi/superheroes/historical very well. They're niche is dramas and they should stick to that. If the CW, Netflix, Amazon Prime, or even Hulu had gotten ahold of Inhumans, I think it would have done so much better! ABC has a problem with turning epic concept ideas into super cheesy, predictable storylines. Look at Shadowhunters for instance! I can't stand any of Clarissa Clare's books, despite all the raving about them, but to be honest the whole idea and world of the Shadowhunters is very unique and cool, so when they said they were coming out with a TV show I was like yes! Finally! I loved the movie, so I was hoping it would be as well done as that. I was sorely mistaken. If it had been handed to the CW or Netflix or anyone else, it would have flourished, but ABC made me cringe. Clary's hair is an unnatural, weird shade of orange and the only relationship they took their time on and really invested in was the whole Malec thing, which was only because it's more acceptable and politically correct to have a well done gay couple relationship, than to treat every main character and relationship equally and with an equal amount of time and energy so that they are all well done and well crafted. Shadowhunders had a redeemable second season that I enjoyed, and if a show like that with a first season like that, that made me cringe and watched only for Simon, then why shouldn't Inhumans have a redeemable second season too? Their first season was so much better than the first season of Shadowhunters and yet no one is wanting to give them time to develop.

I'm not saying Inhumans is better than Shadowhunters, Inhumans had it's fair share of problems, but the good areas outweighed the bad areas. I loved the diversity of the character's personalities and abilities. They had a red headed queen, Medusa who spends the entire season with a shaved head, a king who uses sign language, a guy with the bottom half of a goat and a teleporting dog! How awesome is that?! Some relationships were rockier and less developed than others, but I could still feel the heart of the story and the heart of the characters.

I think my favorite relationship was Medusa and Black Bolt. They were so steadfast and supported each other through everything. They never faltered and they were so sweet together! The friendship and brother sort of relationship between Karnac and Gorgon was really sweet and interesting to watch develop as well. They're storylines were a bit shaky as well and so was Crystal's. Maximus, the villain, had a clear goal and purpose and was an active antagonist which is always a good thing! So, in that department, after reading up on the Inhuman villain that is Mad Maximus, I feel like their representation of him from was pretty spot on. I was and am still a bit bitter that ABC got the show and has all but ran it into the ground since no one seems to want to watch it or seems to enjoy it. Either that or they just have bad taste in shows... The only reason that the concept of the Inhumans and their show didn't work out was because the writers didn't dig deep enough and fulfill the character's and world's full potential. I feel like they could have done so much more.

Overall though, I really enjoyed this show and I would totally come back and watch a second season! I want to give the writers another shot at making the show better and developing the world and characters more, but I'm pessimistically prepared for the show to be canceled since not enough people have shown up to watch it... Even if it is short lived, I was glad I got to broaden my Marvel horizons and learn more about the Inhumans since I didn't know a ton about them. But, despite it's misgivings, I highly recommend it! It's very good and the action is unique and cool and the characters are very interesting and unique as well.

Hope you all have a great weekend everyone!!

March-May Wrap Up!

Happy Tuesday!  So I had a March/April blog post all written out and forgot to post it! So here's a March-May recap! How has the last three months gone for you? March ended up being a really good month. I turned 25 and had a really great birthday I got to hang out with friends, watch some new shows and am almost done with the Throne of Glass series. April and May have also been really good months for me. God's blessed me in so many amazing ways over the past three months.  I feel bad that this blog has fallen so to the wayside for me. I used to post every week and be so excited and now I just really struggle to keep this updated. I'm starting to think it might be time to let this blog post unless I somehow get renewed motivation/inspiration for it.  March-May Writing:  March was a very good writing month. I just reached 65K in Immortal Circus #3, and despite a few small hiccups, it's been flowing really well. I'm enjoying getting to draft a book after spending ...

Turning 25!

Happy Thursday!  At the end of February I was looking back at my wrap ups on my Instagram and on here and it almost made me start crying because of how far I've come. It made me stop and think about where I started my 20's versus where I am now. So much as changed and so much of it for the better. Just looking back at the pictures and wrap ups I've done over the past year, I feel like I'm thriving. I'm at a place I honestly didn't think I'd ever get to and maybe that was just me being dramatic or living in on and off depression for so many years, but it makes me tear up and so thankful to see how far I've come since 20.  At 20 I had a best friend I thought I would still be best friends with when I turned 25. I had him and two other friends at 20 and that was it. I don't even remember what church we were at five years ago, but it wasn't the church we're at now and I know I definitely was not thriving there. I felt so behind everyone else my a...

A Goodbye to The Archive Series

Happy Friday!  The final book of The Archive Series comes out next Tuesday. This has been almost three years in the making and I don't know what to say to properly say goodbye.  I started this series in December 2019 with Golden Touch. The idea had been sparked by me watching The Road to El Dorado and having a desire to write a treasure hunt story for most of December. Little did I know that the story of a girl finding a boy with a Midas touch up in the mountains to help her family with their money issues would turn into a five book series and be a huge part of my life for the next few years. I also had no idea that that series would get me through one of the hardest years - 2020. Honestly, God knew what 2020 would be like and He knew I was going to need a story and characters that would make me happy, give me joy and focus on during that very hard year. And for me, that was Amaya and Darren and this whole series.  I poured a lot of myself and my story into Amaya and Darr...
