Five Attributes of a Dreamer (in honor of the Court of Dreams)

So after reading Mariella Hunt's 3 Reasons Why We Need Dreamers I felt like giving my own take on what a dreamer is. Not only because I am reading A Court of Wings and Ruin (the Court of Dreams everyone!) but because I've come to realize that I'm a ridiculous dreamer. A dreamer isn't just someone who daydreams and always has a far off look in their eyes. There's so much more to us.

So here are five things that make you a dreamer:

A dreamer is someone who has an inner child that will never die. Are you older than ten years old and still adore Disney? Not even a casual like of Disney movies and merch but like hardcore adore Disney and buys all the Disney things at Hot Topic and is not ashamed to boast your love for your favorite characters? Are you in your late teens, twenty's, thirty's, forties and still go to the Middle Grade section at Barnes and Nobles to look for the latest books meant for tweens and early teens? Do dream of fairies and far off lands? If you are or do any of these things you might be a dreamer with an inner child that is still alive and kicking.

A dreamer is someone who dreams big dreams and fights to make them reality. This is what makes us different from others, amongst other things. Most people just dream of a life where their a published author, an artist who is actually selling their work, an established actress, or starting their own business, but that's all those are to them. Just a dream. Something that they might do at some point but right now its just a dream and will never happen. But as a dreamer, you know what your passionate about and you fight for it. Instead of accepting your dream, you work hard to see that dream become a reality.

Dreamers can be -- and usually are -- hopeless romantics. Do you believe in true love? Love at first sight? Dream of a whirlwind romance only found in TV shows and books? Do you adore a good, cutesy YA romance novel or daydream about the classics like Pride and Prejudice or Wuthering Heights? If you believe in the power of love and not just romantic love. Family love. Friend love. Any of it, then you might be a dreamer.

A dreamer is someone who breaks the rules. Just this morning while I was scrolling through Facebook I watched this video of a guy who made these amazing, incredibly detail art of a city. It looked like he made it out of salt or sand and when he lifted the canvas up the sand fell away revealing this gorgeous cityscape. He said how everyone in the art community said that it wasn't possible. He wasn't going to go anywhere with his artwork, but he wanted to test the limits of art, break the rules of what made a "real" piece of art or picture. And he did and he said if was fulfilling and accomplishing that he had created his own form of art that others could enjoy. Dreamers are those who broke the rules in their craft. They don't stick to the status quo. They aren't satisfied with what everyone else is doing. They want to express themselves in their own way, test themselves and their abilities, strive to be the best that they can be in their craft. They break the rules.

A dreamer is someone who appreciates all the small details of life. Dreamers are the ones who stop to admire a flower or the setting sun. They appreciate the arts. Paintings, drawings, music, well-crafted writing and characters. They stop to breath and take life in right where they are, stop to appreciate the beauty around them even in the middle of a difficult situation.

So there you have it. Five attributes that I believe most dreamers have in common. Don't let the harsh world tell you to get your head out of the clouds. Be yourself and be a dreamer. Don't let anyone drag you down to earth, because we need dreamers like you to break rules and push limits and remind everyone of the beauty and magic in life.

Have a great week everyone!

How to Revise like a Pantser ft. Big Hero 6 Gifs

Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope you've had a great week so far and that you have a great Easter weekend ahead! We plan on going to my grandparent's on Friday to celebrate Easter with family and spending the night there so that'll be a fun time. :) Alright, so I contemplated doing an Easter-y post on here but I wasn't even sure what that would look like... So instead, I thought I'd do something fun and happy in honor of the celebration of Easter on Sunday. Without further ado, here is your Big Hero 6 gif filled revising process from a real life pantser: The end of your first draft is in sight! You type like crazy, stay up past your normal bedtime until it is finished. When you type The End, the satisfaction that you actually did this thing sets in. Guys, it is the sweetest feeling ever. Knowing you worked so hard to complete this draft and came out on the other side. Unscathed? Perhaps not. But triumphant? Definitely! That first draft is a total disast

Cover Reveal: Golden Touch!!

Happy Tuesday!!  Today's the day! I turn 23 and I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than to share the cover for Golden Touch! I think this is by far my favorite cover my mom has ever done. It's crazy to think that this time last year Golden Touch was still just a first draft and I was in the middle of writing book 2 of the series. A defining part of my twenty-second year will always be having revised Golden Touch and written almost the entire Archive Series. And now I get to open up my twenty-third year with sharing the cover and writing book the first draft of book 5, the very last book in the series. God is so good guys. I really think He gave me Golden Touch and this whole series a few months before the events of 2020 started. He gave me a story I could get lost in, I could find joy in even during some of the hardest times of the year. And now I get to share the cover and I get to close out the series and I just pray and hope that God will use Golden Touch and

How to Write a Negative Character Arc

Anyone else love reading a train wreck? I find negative character arcs refreshing and fun to read and watch because not a lot of people do them. Like I'm a sucker for a redemption arc. I love characters that start out horrible and bad and "irredeemable" and then slowly redeem themselves and become the good guy. But from time to time I just love watching a good character go bad. Call me evil but I hope I'm not the only one who enjoys this. I've actually wanted to write this post for a while after rewatching Merlin last year and then over the past month me and a friend were rewatching Star Wars and I've always enjoyed the prequels because of Anakin's downward spiral. Also the last season of The 100, you watch as Octavia completes her journey to becoming one of the meanest, worst antagonists in the show. And that's saying something. The other day I really thought about what other characters who have negative arcs there are but I honestly couldn't th
