6 Things I'm doing if I'm not Writing (Why six? Cuz there's more than five but less than seven)

Sooo I'm kind of cheating today. This is an easier, faster post because I didn't get one written this weekend or yesterday or Monday. The Instagram tag one counts but that one was also another easy one to write.

A quick update: I'm still wanting to self publish my collection of short stories but it's taking longer than expected to make them all nice and perfect and all that so hopefully I'll have like a release date and all that at some point. Also I'm working on a Young Adult Science Fiction novel called Golden. I'm still around the beginning (and by beginning I mean eighty pages in and just about to hit the point of no return that leads into the middle). My beginnings always somehow end up being long. But anyways! That's fun to write. And because my brain hates me and because my characters and stories always have to be so difficult I am redoing Project Khione, more or less from scratch... I just want this one to be even better than the first, like I have fairly high expectations for this book and I feel like I can do better. Weapon Icean was the best I could do last year but I feel like I've grown a lot writing-wise in the last few months and I want to challenge myself and do better and hopefully give you readers an even better story to enjoy. I'm still meshing my new idea with a few old scenes from the original idea so that's a whole lot of fun *sarcasm*.

So today's post is pretty self-explanatory. Five things that I do when I'm not writing. To be honest though, if I'm not writing then I'm thinking about writing so my brain is never off.

  1. Reading: If I'm not writing then I'm reading. Either I'm reading a novel, a short story, a blog post or something on the Internet. But usually it's a novel that I've gotten caught up in. (There's a quote somewhere by someone that said a good writer is a good reader. Not all writers need to be bookworms or read all the time buuut reading is always a good side hobby for a writer).
I dunno... I just couldn't pass this up
  2. Watching/Binging a TV Show: Soooo I'm actually more of a TV junkie then a reader. I love a good book every now and again, usually by authors that I trust and are established (though there are a few new diamonds in the rough such as Stephanie Garber and her magical book Caraval). But I watch more than I read. Two of my favorite writers are screenwriters: Julie Plec and Joss Whedon. So if I'm not reading or writing then I'm more than likely watching a show. I've even perfected the art of getting little kids food and water while watching a show which I'm not sure is good or not but I'm still pretty proud of my masterful TV watching. Heck, the other day a friend asked how long it would take me to watch a TV show with eight seasons, 20 episodes each. I said depending on how busy I am about a month or a month in a half. But either this is really sad or really funny or a little of both, I said I can watch one season with 20-22 episodes that are 40-41 minutes each in about a week. Yes... I know my exact time for TV shows depending on how many seasons, how many minutes each episode is and how many episodes there are in total. You decide if that's good or bad haha
I don't know what show this is but I love this gif
  3. Doing some sort of outside activity. Either I'm biking or playing with Chessie or at the zoo or a park or walking at a park on a trail or just sitting outside watching my little brothers. We do a lot of outdoor things... My little brothers go to at least one park at least twice a day.
  4. Scrolling through social media (mostly Pinterest and Instagram... but mostly Pinterest). Let's just say I'm on Pinterest a lot. I've had a friend say it's easier to reach me on Pinterest than it is through text. Sooo yeah I'm a little addicted. But that's where I find Fandom pins and get character and world building inspiration. Or I'm going through finding clothes for my characters to wear (oddly enough like some authors love to describe scenery or weapons, I have a fixation with my character's clothes. They are always dressed just right that compliment their personalities perfectly). And if I'm not on Pinterest then I'm on Instagram being jealous of all these gorgeous Disneybounder outfits and bookstagram pictures.
Guys... tbh my phone has never died...like never. (I think I have a problem)
  5. At church or a church group or hanging out with friends (who are usually from church). If I'm not doing any of those four things then I'm probably at church or at a church group or hanging out with a friend.
  6. Blogging. I don't count blogging as "writing." Writing to me is writing one of my short stories or working on one of my novels. Blogging is like chill, not too hard writing. It's fun and I can just write and rant about whatever I want cuz it's my blog and I can say and do whatever I want on it. Plus, it's a good way to get feedback and get readers and make friends and all that good stuff.
I couldn't pass this one up either
So there you have it. Six things that I am doing if I'm not writing. Sorry this post is up kind of late... we headed out to the children's museum this morning and I didn't have time to finish this post. This Friday's post will be more interesting. I promise. Have a great rest of the week everyone!

If you're not writing then what are you doing? Do you have any other hobbies besides writing? I'd love to hear from you below in the comments!

Happy Friday! So, they awesome Lily Cat tagged me in this fictional vacation/would you rather challenge and I am so excited to do this. It sounds so fun! Alright so here's the deal:   ~ Include the graphic  Madeline  made. ~ Answer the Questions  ~ Tag some other people if you feel so inclined Let's jump right into this!  Would you rather...  Train with demigods for the summer at Camp Halfblood OR attend Hogwarts to learn some spells for a semester? These movies were a disgrace to the books buuut I needed a gif so here you go haha How is this even a question? ;) Camp Halfblood of course! I adore the Percy Jackson series, so I would do just about anything to be a halfblood for the Summer. The real question is, who would my parent be?? My enneagram four side who loves being special and different wants me to be a kid of one of the big three... maybe Hades just to make myself extra special and unique from everyone else ;) But m...

How to Revise like a Pantser ft. Big Hero 6 Gifs

Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope you've had a great week so far and that you have a great Easter weekend ahead! We plan on going to my grandparent's on Friday to celebrate Easter with family and spending the night there so that'll be a fun time. :) Alright, so I contemplated doing an Easter-y post on here but I wasn't even sure what that would look like... So instead, I thought I'd do something fun and happy in honor of the celebration of Easter on Sunday. Without further ado, here is your Big Hero 6 gif filled revising process from a real life pantser: The end of your first draft is in sight! You type like crazy, stay up past your normal bedtime until it is finished. When you type The End, the satisfaction that you actually did this thing sets in. Guys, it is the sweetest feeling ever. Knowing you worked so hard to complete this draft and came out on the other side. Unscathed? Perhaps not. But triumphant? Definitely! That first draft is a total disast...

Best Resources for Writers

Happy Wednesday once more everyone! So recently I've been doing a lot of craft-learning and have discovered some pretty awesome resources that have been so helpful to me. I'm also contemplating trying my hand at a How To guide for writers. I've already written a How to Write a Serial book and it just needs to be touched up. I think I might make it one of my freebies for my newsletter. So then not only do you get a short story but also a how to guide cuz I realized a lot of the newsletters I sign up for come with how to guides or writerly resources. But anyways, here are some of my favorite books/podcasts/blogs that have been so, so helpful to me over the past few months: Craft Books: Go Teen Writers: Edit Your Novel by Stephanie Morril and Jill Williamson: This one has a little bit of everything in it and is perfect for beginners. If you've just started plotting your novel, are in the middle of writing it or have begun the editing process this is a must have!  ...
