Ghatlinberg: A Review

So I had this whole awesome rambling rant thing planned out about creative people and how we're awesome but then we had our vacation last week and the day after we got home I came down with cold and I still have that cold and so I'm being lazy. I plan on writing that post next week but this week here's a quick little overview of Ghatlinberg and the family adventures we had there.

Last week on Monday night my dad packed up our six passenger van and Tuesday morning we all got up at around three, got dressed and crammed ourselves like sleep deprived zombies into the car. Let's just say it wasn't a very pleasant experience (neither was the trip home).

I'm not sure what I expected of Ghatlinberg but it certainly wasn't a tourist trap - I want to say town but it can't be considered one because it was so chaotic and not at all townish - crammed full of tiny shops that sold trinkets and shirts that you could easily find at Target or on Amazon. And let's not forget the hordes of people crowding the side walks and racing through pedestrian crossings. The traffic was horrible and on several occasions I was sure my dad was going to accidently hit a poor unsuspecting kid or adult or get rear ended by impatient drivers.

Not to say that the vacation wasn't enjoyable. Sure there were a few hiccups and set backs and there were plenty of whining, grumbling, frustration and arguing to go around (me included in all of that) but there were a few shining moments of fun. We had a great time in the outdoor hot tub -- we stayed in a beautiful, newly made and huge hotel -- got to go out to eat at a real sit down restaurant. We never get to do that because I have a five year old crazy person for a little brother and a nine year old little brother who's a sort of picky eater so to us that was a vacation all on it's own.

We also had some laughs goofing around on the last day of Ghatlinberg doing mini golf, we got to visit an awesome comic book store and I got a bunch of New Mutant comics to read. But the highlight -- for me anyways -- was me, my mom, and my bother Tristan hiking to the top of a mountain to see this beautiful waterfall. It was a hard climb up but so worth it and an amazing feeling to know that you got see some amazing views and climbed a mountain for goodness sakes!
Me and Tristan at the top of the mountain with the waterfall behind us.

That and on the second day we went on a more leisurely hike to a smaller waterfall that the little boys enjoyed. They got to talk to mountain rangers and got to see salamanders and giant crawdads. It was quite an experience.

Overall though the mountains were beautiful and inspiring and I am very glad that I go to see the Smokey's because now I have a real idea on how the mountains look for when I incorporate mountains into my stories.

Had to take a picture of the small rainbow coming off the waterfall.

It was a great experience even though we've all said that we won't be going back there again. I hope you all have a great rest of the week!

Have you ever been to Ghatlinberg? What did you think? ļ»æ

March-May Wrap Up!

Happy Tuesday!  So I had a March/April blog post all written out and forgot to post it! So here's a March-May recap! How has the last three months gone for you? March ended up being a really good month. I turned 25 and had a really great birthday I got to hang out with friends, watch some new shows and am almost done with the Throne of Glass series. April and May have also been really good months for me. God's blessed me in so many amazing ways over the past three months.  I feel bad that this blog has fallen so to the wayside for me. I used to post every week and be so excited and now I just really struggle to keep this updated. I'm starting to think it might be time to let this blog post unless I somehow get renewed motivation/inspiration for it.  March-May Writing:  March was a very good writing month. I just reached 65K in Immortal Circus #3, and despite a few small hiccups, it's been flowing really well. I'm enjoying getting to draft a book after spending ...

Turning 25!

Happy Thursday!  At the end of February I was looking back at my wrap ups on my Instagram and on here and it almost made me start crying because of how far I've come. It made me stop and think about where I started my 20's versus where I am now. So much as changed and so much of it for the better. Just looking back at the pictures and wrap ups I've done over the past year, I feel like I'm thriving. I'm at a place I honestly didn't think I'd ever get to and maybe that was just me being dramatic or living in on and off depression for so many years, but it makes me tear up and so thankful to see how far I've come since 20.  At 20 I had a best friend I thought I would still be best friends with when I turned 25. I had him and two other friends at 20 and that was it. I don't even remember what church we were at five years ago, but it wasn't the church we're at now and I know I definitely was not thriving there. I felt so behind everyone else my a...

A Goodbye to The Archive Series

Happy Friday!  The final book of The Archive Series comes out next Tuesday. This has been almost three years in the making and I don't know what to say to properly say goodbye.  I started this series in December 2019 with Golden Touch. The idea had been sparked by me watching The Road to El Dorado and having a desire to write a treasure hunt story for most of December. Little did I know that the story of a girl finding a boy with a Midas touch up in the mountains to help her family with their money issues would turn into a five book series and be a huge part of my life for the next few years. I also had no idea that that series would get me through one of the hardest years - 2020. Honestly, God knew what 2020 would be like and He knew I was going to need a story and characters that would make me happy, give me joy and focus on during that very hard year. And for me, that was Amaya and Darren and this whole series.  I poured a lot of myself and my story into Amaya and Darr...
