The Superhero Christian Genre

The Christian Superhero Genre

 

    Who doesn’t love superheroes? They’re strong, they’re awesome, they fight for what’s right, and they have amazing powers! Admit it, who hasn’t once wished that they had a superpower?

     So just what is the Christian Superhero genre? Simple. It’s basically a story that has superheroes and God. There are comic books, graphic novels, and then there are plain word novels.

    What makes Christian Superhero fiction different than ordinary Superhero fiction? Well, for one, obviously the former has God in it and it teaches a Christian theme. Secondly, Christian Superhero stories almost always end on a note of hope—without corniness, of course.

    Why read Christian Superhero novels? Because they can provide clean, action packed, godly fun. God likes fun. That’s a major part of what books are all about. They take us into different worlds where we can be anything we desire, go on impossible adventures. They show us the “what ifs.” What if God gave a group of ordinary folks amazing abilities—would they use them for good, for evil, or pretend like they don’t even have them? What if a Christian and a skeptic got into an accident that gave them incredible powers—how would their beliefs be affected?

    Christian Superhero fiction is perfect for the adventure lovers who want to enter an incredible world, witness a fight between good and evil, and consider what it might be like between people and God if they had powers.

    Christian Superhero novels may be rare in the YA genre. But the novels out there—for example: John Otte’s Failstate series—are real treasures.
