The Many Plots of 2014

First of all, Happy New Year!!! Hope everyone has a great time celebrating the new year.

 

Book 1: The Young Elites by Marie Lu:

But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her.

Her plot was complex and full of many twists and turns. The ending was a huge boom with amazing action and great depth.

Book 2: The Eighth Day by Dianne K. Salerni:

She is a descendant of the powerful wizard Merlin, and there is a group of people who wish to use her in order to destroy the normal seven-day world and all who live in it. Torn between protecting his new friend and saving the entire human race from complete destruction, Jax is faced with an impossible choice. Even with an eighth day, time is running out.

Now her plot was a bit more subtle, concealing a larger more interesting part of the story that I wasn't expecting at all and she did such a great job at keeping that secret until the end.  

Book 3: Incarceron by Catherine Fisher:

Synopsis: 

Incarceron -- a futuristic prison, sealed from view, where the descendants of the original prisoners live in a dark world torn by rivalry and savagery. It is a terrifying mix of high technology -- a living building which pervades the novel as an ever-watchful, ever-vengeful character, and a typical medieval torture chamber -- chains, great halls, dungeons. A young prisoner, Finn, has haunting visions of an earlier life, and cannot believe he was born here and has always been here. In the outer world, Claudia, daughter of the Warden of Incarceron, is trapped in her own form of prison -- a futuristic world constructed beautifully to look like a past era, an imminent marriage she dreads. She knows nothing of Incarceron, except that it exists. But there comes a moment when Finn, inside Incarceron, and Claudia, outside, simultaneously find a device -- a crystal key, through which they can talk to each other. And so the plan for Finn's escape is born ... 

Yet another intriguing plot. Only this one was very different with two different point of views by Finn and Claudia who live in completely different worlds. I was rushing through the pages to find out how they possibly could meet up and to figure out the secrets of Incarceron.

Book 4: V is for Villain by Peter Moore:

I can not rave enough about this book! It was amazing! Absolutely incredible! The character development was awesomely great to read. I've read quite a few of books in the perspective of super villains but they always ended up turning good. But what about those goody two-shoes that turned dark and sinister? This book shows that side of the super world and it was so unique. His plot was perfectly crafted and the twist at the end shocked me. 

 

Book 5: Everblaze by Shannon Messenger:

Here's the synopsis of Everblaze: 

 Sophie Foster is ready to fight back.

Her talents are getting stronger, and with the elusive Black Swan group ignoring her calls for help, she’s determined to find her kidnappers—before they come after her again.

But a daring mistake leaves her world teetering on the edge of war, and causes many to fear that she has finally gone too far. And the deeper Sophie searches, the farther the conspiracy stretches, proving that her most dangerous enemy might be closer than she realizes.

In this nail-biting third book in the Keeper of the Lost Cities series, Sophie must fight the flames of rebellion, before they destroy everyone and everything she loves.

 

This book was yet another phenomenal masterpiece of Shannon Messenger though I believe I've said that about a hundred times. The plot was so great. Full of twists and turns and by the middle of the book had already laughed and cried and had no idea what she could possibly do next.

Book 6: Cress by Marissa Meyer:

Synopsis: 

In this third book in the Lunar Chronicles, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl imprisoned on a satellite since childhood who's only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.

 

I love all of Marissa Meyer's books so much. Her books are very structured and have great plots that follow the fairytales that each of them represent in a roundabout way.    

Book 7: Let the Storms Break by Shannon Messenger:

Here's the synopsis for Let the Storms Break: 

Vane Weston should have died in the category-five tornado that killed his parents. Instead, he woke up in a pile of rubble with no memories of his past - except one: a beautiful, dark-haired girl standing in the winds. She swept through his dreams ever since, and he clings to the hope that she's real.

Audra is real, but she isn't human. She's a sylph, an air elemental who can walk on the wind, translate its alluring songs, even twist it into a weapon. She's also a guardian - Vane's guardian - and has sworn an oath to protect him at all costs.

When a hasty mistake reveals their location to the enemy who murdered both their families, Audra has just days to help Vane unlock his memories. And as the storm winds gather, Audra and Vane start to realize that the greatest danger might not be the warriors coming to destroy them, but the forbidden romance growing between them.

 

Again another well done book by Shannon Messenger. The plot was well done and I was tearing through the pages trying to get to Audra's point of view and then back to Vanes over and over again. The ending has another cliffhanger and an interesting ending.
