Friday Musings #2

Happy Friday! I hope you all have had a great week!

This week... has been good... There's been some ups and downs, but overall it's been a good week.

Classes started this week. This semester I'm taking a Harry Potter class, an anthropology class on African cultures and a film studies class that starts in March. On Monday I got up and before I had even finished breakfast was calling several different offices at the college I go to to figure out why my anthropology class didn't show up yet on the modules. Then I had to email the teacher of the class and he told me it would be up in a few hours. So I felt like I had a late start to that class, especially since I was missing two of the books we needed to do a discussion board by the end of the week.

On Tuesday I got to spend like five or six hours with my best friend which was fantastic. I had the best time hanging out and talking about a lot of different things. Plus, we went to Barnes and Nobles and I got Chosen by Kiersten White and The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black. It was fifty percent off and I've wanted to have that book on my shelf forever! I think I was more excited about getting The Darkest Part of the Forest than I was about Chosen haha My Holly Black collection on my shelf is now complete.

I finished Linger by Maggie Stiefvater on Wednesday. Can I just say how much I love this series?? It's taken me longer than usual to finish it, but I honestly have loved every moment of reading Shiver and Linger. They're unlike any other books I've read in the paranormal romance genre. There's so much heart in them. I absolutely love Sam and now I think I love Cole too. I didn't think I would like him, but now he's one of my favorite characters haha.

After finishing Linger, I debated starting Chosen or rereading Darkest Part of the Forest and decided I really wanted to know how Grace and Sam's story ends before diving into any other books. Plus, Maggie's writing and the heart and soul of this story has really been inspiring me with my own story and I don't want to cut off that momentum and inspiration. So, I decided to jump right into Forever. I'm not too far into it but already it's kind of heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. Actually, I think that's how I would describe the whole series. Heartbreaking and beautiful. The perfect mix of true love, beauty, melancholy and longing.

Wednesday was a rough day for me... I ate some bad food or reacted to it or something and felt sick the entire rest of the day after that. I didn't get any of the writing or school work done I had wanted to get done so I'm feeling a little rushed as the week comes to a close. But I'm trying to stay positive. This week started off a little wobbly classwork-wise, but next week I'll do better now that I know what my teachers are expecting and I have all my reading materials now.

I got way more done than I thought I would today. I got some serious writing done this morning, I actually hit 200 pages in Golden Touch which feels amazing! I did a whole lot of reading to catch up for my anthropology class and did a Zoom meeting for my Harry Potter class. I even made some time to read some of Forever.

Today I'm starting my babysitting job! I get to babysit one of my favorite and cutest little friends every Friday for the foreseeable future and while I'm happy to get to spend time with her, it'll also be a bit of an adjustment. Mornings are usually when I get my writing and class work done, so it'll be an adjustment changing up when I do classwork on Friday's, but it'll be good and it'll all work out.

The one thing I didn't accomplish this week yet... I haven't started my read through of Cursed... I had wanted to start it at the beginning of the week, but I kept putting it off and I had other things to do... I'm determined to try and make it happen this weekend though. I really want to get this stage of the editing process started and get past it so I can stay on schedule for having it ready to publish by the end of March.

One thing I'm super proud of this week: I kept up with reading the Bible first thing in the morning. And... it wasn't actually that hard. I thought it would be because usually I'll bring my breakfast to my room and start on classwork straight away because I know once I get my work done for the day I can start writing and doing other things. But I find myself excited to open the Bible in the mornings. I don't feel the insistent rush to get to my classwork like I used to. I've heard a lot of times in lots of different ways lots of different people say how important it is to start the day with God's Word or even just praying to Him. They say it changes the whole day and puts everything into perspective. As someone who isn't a morning person and has tried (and failed) to break the habit of looking at my phone first thing in the morning I never thought that reading the Bible in the morning would work for me. But here I am and it's pretty amazing.

Besides the events that may unfold today and over the weekend, it's been a surprising week. Honestly, I would say the week was OK, but I had so much fun on Tuesday that it made up for all the crazy and annoying stuff that happened throughout the rest of the week. Now I get to close out the week this evening by hanging out with another super good friend of mine.

How was your week?? Did you have any major writing accomplishments or read any good books?

    1. Yeah, I had no idea it was a whole class on Harry Potter until after I signed up haha We're taking two weeks for each book and each week we have to do discussion boards on the book, write summaries about the characters from our different houses and do a project that has to do with either the books or the films. It'll definitely be an interesting class haha

    1. Thanks! :) Yeah, it's definitely been an experience haha. Bummer... :( To be fair though, I had no idea the children's lit class I was signing up for would be all about Harry Potter. It was fun surprise haha.

How to Revise like a Pantser ft. Big Hero 6 Gifs

Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope you've had a great week so far and that you have a great Easter weekend ahead! We plan on going to my grandparent's on Friday to celebrate Easter with family and spending the night there so that'll be a fun time. :) Alright, so I contemplated doing an Easter-y post on here but I wasn't even sure what that would look like... So instead, I thought I'd do something fun and happy in honor of the celebration of Easter on Sunday. Without further ado, here is your Big Hero 6 gif filled revising process from a real life pantser: The end of your first draft is in sight! You type like crazy, stay up past your normal bedtime until it is finished. When you type The End, the satisfaction that you actually did this thing sets in. Guys, it is the sweetest feeling ever. Knowing you worked so hard to complete this draft and came out on the other side. Unscathed? Perhaps not. But triumphant? Definitely! That first draft is a total disast

How to Write a Negative Character Arc

Anyone else love reading a train wreck? I find negative character arcs refreshing and fun to read and watch because not a lot of people do them. Like I'm a sucker for a redemption arc. I love characters that start out horrible and bad and "irredeemable" and then slowly redeem themselves and become the good guy. But from time to time I just love watching a good character go bad. Call me evil but I hope I'm not the only one who enjoys this. I've actually wanted to write this post for a while after rewatching Merlin last year and then over the past month me and a friend were rewatching Star Wars and I've always enjoyed the prequels because of Anakin's downward spiral. Also the last season of The 100, you watch as Octavia completes her journey to becoming one of the meanest, worst antagonists in the show. And that's saying something. The other day I really thought about what other characters who have negative arcs there are but I honestly couldn't th

Friday in Review: May Monthly Wrap-Up

Happy Wednesday once more everyone! I hope you've all had a great May. May has been full of lots of life stuff and writerly stuff and reading. I am so excited to share it with you all (along with an awesome new thing I'm doing for next month on here)! May Writing: May was full of lots of writing... Like lots. I finished draft four of The Lost Ones, came up with the name The Lost Ones and finished editing draft five. Now comes the hard work of plugging in all those changes and edits into my Word doc. Oh the joys of writing... ;) But for real, I am so excited that I finished the read through for TLO and I am even more excited to finish this draft so I can get it ready for betas. This month I also planned out the series... I've never planned out a series ever. I'm a pantser so what do I do? I make life hard for myself by winging not only my novels but entire series too. That whole not planning thing? It didn't work for me and since I'm wanting to take myself m
